2. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using GetBooks, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms, as well as our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with any part of these Terms, you must not access or use the Service.

You represent that you are at least 16 years of age. If you are under 16, you may not use the Service without the consent of a parent or legal guardian.

3. Description of Service

GetBooks is a book discovery platform that enables users to:

  • Search for and discover books across a comprehensive database
  • Save books and organize them into personal shelves
  • Write and read book reviews
  • Set and track reading goals
  • Create and join book clubs
  • Participate in buddy reads with other users
  • Create and share curated book lists
  • Follow other users and engage with social reading features
  • Access affiliate links to purchase books from third-party retailers

GetBooks does not sell books directly. We provide affiliate links to third-party retailers where users may purchase books. All purchase transactions occur on the respective retailer's platform and are governed by their terms and conditions.

4. User Accounts

To access certain features of the Service, you must create an account. You may register using an email address and password or through a supported third-party OAuth provider (such as Google or Apple).

When you create an account, you agree to:

  • Provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration
  • Maintain and promptly update your account information
  • Maintain the security and confidentiality of your login credentials
  • Accept responsibility for all activities that occur under your account
  • Notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account

Each individual may maintain only one account. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, that are duplicates, or that have been inactive for an extended period.

5. User Content

GetBooks allows you to post, submit, and share content including but not limited to book reviews, reading lists, club discussions, and profile information ("User Content").

Ownership

You retain all ownership rights in your User Content. By posting User Content on GetBooks, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, sublicensable license to use, display, reproduce, and distribute your User Content solely in connection with operating and providing the Service.

Content Standards

You agree not to post User Content that:

  • Is illegal, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, or otherwise objectionable
  • Infringes on any third party's intellectual property or other rights
  • Contains false or misleading information
  • Contains spam, advertising, or promotional material not authorized by us
  • Contains malicious code, viruses, or other harmful components
  • Violates the privacy of others

We reserve the right to remove any User Content that violates these Terms or that we deem inappropriate, at our sole discretion and without prior notice.

6. Affiliate Links and Purchases

GetBooks contains affiliate links to third-party retailers, including but not limited to:

  • Bookshop.org (via the Bookshop.org Affiliate Program)
  • Books-A-Million

When you click on affiliate links and make qualifying purchases, we may earn a commission. This comes at no additional cost to you.

All purchases made through affiliate links are governed by the respective retailer's terms of service, return policies, and privacy policies. We are not a party to any transaction between you and the retailer. We do not process payments, handle shipping, or manage returns.

Prices and availability displayed on GetBooks are provided for informational purposes only and may not reflect current pricing or stock. We make no guarantees regarding the accuracy or timeliness of pricing information.

7. Intellectual Property

Book Metadata

Book metadata displayed on GetBooks, including titles, author names, descriptions, cover images, and publication details, is sourced from third-party services such as Google Books API, Open Library, and ISBNdb. This data is displayed under fair use principles and in accordance with the respective API terms of service.

GetBooks Property

The GetBooks name, logo, branding, visual design, user interface, and underlying source code are the property of Three Things Media. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from any part of the Service without our prior written consent.

User Property

User Content remains the intellectual property of the respective user, subject to the license granted in Section 5 of these Terms.

8. Prohibited Conduct

You agree not to engage in any of the following activities:

  • Scraping, crawling, or using automated means to access or collect data from the Service without our written permission
  • Using bots, scripts, or other automated tools to interact with the Service
  • Impersonating any person or entity, or falsely claiming an affiliation with any person or entity
  • Sending spam, unsolicited messages, or bulk communications through the Service
  • Interfering with, disrupting, or placing an undue burden on the Service or its infrastructure
  • Attempting to gain unauthorized access to the Service, other user accounts, or related systems
  • Circumventing, disabling, or otherwise interfering with security features of the Service
  • Using the Service for any purpose that violates applicable local, national, or international laws or regulations
  • Harassing, bullying, intimidating, or abusing other users of the Service
  • Posting or transmitting any material that contains malware, viruses, or other harmful code
  • Reverse engineering, decompiling, or disassembling any part of the Service

9. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without notice, for any reason, including but not limited to violation of these Terms.

You may delete your account at any time through your account settings. Upon account deletion, we will remove your profile and personal data in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

Upon termination, your right and license to use the Service will immediately cease. The following provisions of these Terms will survive termination: Sections 5 (User Content), 7 (Intellectual Property), 10 (Disclaimers), 11 (Limitation of Liability), and 12 (Governing Law).

10. Disclaimers

The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

We do not warrant that:

  • The Service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free
  • The results obtained from the Service will be accurate or reliable
  • Book data, including titles, authors, descriptions, ISBNs, and cover images, will be free of errors or inaccuracies
  • Third-party content displayed on the Service will be accurate, complete, or current
  • Any defects in the Service will be corrected

Book metadata is sourced from third-party APIs and databases. While we make reasonable efforts to ensure data quality, we cannot guarantee the accuracy or completeness of this information.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Three Things Media and its officers, directors, employees, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, use, or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of or inability to use the Service.

In no event shall our total aggregate liability to you for all claims arising out of or relating to the Service exceed the amount you have paid to us, if any, in the twelve (12) months preceding the event giving rise to the claim.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages. In such jurisdictions, our liability shall be limited to the greatest extent permitted by law.

12. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.

Any disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Ingolstadt, Germany, unless mandatory consumer protection laws in your jurisdiction require otherwise.

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
